Victor Emanuel BENDIX

Biography

Danish concert pianist, composer and conductor Victor Emanuel Bendix is a virtually forgotten figure despite a few recordings of his piano concerto, four symphonies and a number of melodies.

It can be assumed that this undated piece is an early work by him. It was meant to be played among his family with his two older brothers, who played oboe and cello. However the cello part can just as well be played on the bassoon.

For the record, on March 16th, 1891, Bendix, on piano, was the first musician, along with oboist Olivo Krause (1857-1927), to perform Carl Nielsen’s 2 Fantasies Op.2 (1865-1931) known to all oboists. Nielsen, through his talent as a composer, certainly obscured the late career of his elder by fourteen years.
