Roland CORYN

biography

He received his musical training at the Royal Conservatory in Ghent where he graduated as a pianist and viola player. At the same time he finished the theoretical department with a 1st Prize for Composition. In the beginning of his professional career he mainly worked as an instrumentalist in various chamber music ensembles. As a teacher he taught at the music academies in Harelbeke, Izegem and Ostend.For many years he held the position of Professor of Composition at the Music Conservatory in Ghent.

As a composer his opus list includes both instrumental and vocal works. He has won various prizes, including the
Tenuto Prize in 1973, the Jef Van Hoof Prize in 1974, the Koopal Prize in 1986 for his chamber music oeuvre, and the
Visser-Neerlandia Prize in 1999 for the entirety of his oeuvre. More details can be found on his website www.coryn.info.
