BIOGRAPHY

A modern and imaginative saxophonist, Nicolas Prost likes to bring together classical and contemporary music, improvisation, voice, gestures and electronics.

Brilliant prize-winner at the Paris CNSM and in numerous international chamber music competitions, a member of the Variances and Saxiana ensembles, Nicolas Prost is also saxophonist in the Orchestre des Concerts Lamoureux. He performs as soloist in concertante works with the Mexico Philharmonic, European Camerata of London, the Bangkok symphony orchestra, the Orchestre de la Suisse-Romande, the Augsburg Camerata, but also in France with the Strasbourg philharmonic orchestra, the Capitole de Toulouse, the Concerts Lamoureux, Musiciens de la Prée, the Limousin Regional Orchestra, the Orchestre de la Police Nationale, etc.

His extensive discography has been critically acclaimed, receiving such distinctions as the Diapason d’Or pour Tremendum – Harmonia mundi, **** from Classica for both The Art of the Saxophone – Indésens and Créations – Saphir.
Nicolas Prost is very involved in the evolution of his instrument. He has participated in the premieres of nearly a hundred original works – by Connesson, Escaich, Pécou, Bacri, Zavaro, Hersant, Emler, Lauba, Beytelman, Naon, Godart, etc. He has also published many educational books, and edits the Saxiana collection for Billaudot publishing, the Adolphe Sax Album series for Lemoine publishing and the Saxophone et Pédagogie, à vous de jouer books (co-written with Jean-Yves Chevalier) and Saxophone à la française.

His interest in the educational aspect of his instrument pushes him, as a «researcher», towards the exploration of forgotten repertoires for the saxophone, but also to artistic direction for events for the youth organised by Saxiana: national competitions, school performances and training courses in preparation for the tests of educational competitions.

In parallel to all these activities, Nicolas Prost teaches at Saint-Maur’s CRR, gives lectures and conducts master classes at prestigious international universities, including the Paris CNSM but also in Bloomington, Bowling Green, Seoul, Taipei, Riga, Fribourg, Cologne, Nagoya, Tokyo, Barcelona, Amsterdam, Mexico, Helsinki, Saint-Petersburg, Montreal, Ottawa, etc.
