Denise ROGER

BIOGRAPHY

Denise ROGER (1924 - 2005) completed her entire education at the Paris Conservatory. She enrolled at the age of eight, and was later awarded numerous first prizes. In 1986, she received the “médaille de vermeil” from the city of Paris for her work as pianist and composer. Her catalogue includes one hundred pieces. Confronted by the various orientations of contemporary music, Denise Roger chose to maintain her independence.

Her musical language is linear and contrapuntal, rigorously structured and highly rhythmical. In her symphony for strings, her chamber music, her works for orchestra or instrumental soloist, as well as those for voice and instrumental ensemble, the expression is generally dramatic, while gentleness reigns in her forty some art songs written to French or German poems.
