BIOGRAPHY
A French composer of Bulgarian descent, Daniel Ouzounoff (1929-2015) played piano before devoting himself to composition. Self-taught, he was involved in the adventure of the Lasry-Baschet Sound Structures in the 1960s, taking part in numerous tours and television shows. His catalogue includes several chamber pieces as well as symphonic and concertante works. He wrote the librettos for the vocal works he composed towards the end of his life. The series of four «Phoniales» is based on the idea of the duet.
Phoniales 2 for English horn and percussion was premiered in 1980 by Isabelle Gascuel-Villevieile and Claude Villevieille.
