Biography
A composer recognised for his ability to integrate elements of the Mexican and Cuban musical styles into his works, he first came to international prominence with his series of Danzones, begun in the early 1990s, inspired by Cuba and based on the music of the Veracruz region in Mexico, most notably Danzón n°2, written en 1994. He has written many pieces for orchestra, choir and orchestra, string quartet, wind quintet and various chamber music ensembles.
